The San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside (SAGE) Board of Directors is proud to announce James A. Nortey II, as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective January 22, 2024. Mr. Nortey brings over a decade of legal, organizational governance, and community experience to the CEO role. His prior experience includes his service on the City of Austin’s Planning Commission and as a Board member for Six Square – Austin’s Black Cultural District. Mr. Nortey has a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Baylor University, a Master’s Degree in Technology Commercialization and a Law Degree from Harvard Law School. Mr. Nortey’s selection as CEO is the culmination of the dedicated efforts of the Board’s Executive Search Committee. Committee members – Francine Prosser-Johnson, South Texas Center for Pediatric Care; Jeff Arndt, VIA; McKayla (Schmidt) Sumbry, Spurs Sports and Entertainment; Dr. Rhonda BeLue, UTSA; and Dr. Tomeka C. Wilson, St. Philip’s College - were instrumental in guiding the search process to ensure that the best candidate was selected to lead the organization. The process would not have been possible without the City of San Antonio’s partnership as the City graciously loaned SAGE an executive to serve as Interim CEO – Mrs. Bridgett White, Planning Department Director – to lead and sustain the organization during a time of change. The Board values the strong relationship built with the City and City leadership, specifically City Manager Erik Walsh, and look forward to continuing the collaboration into the future through shared goals and a strong commitment to the Eastside community. This movement forward will build on the foundation Mrs. White has helped us establish; her presence, guidance and contributions have been invaluable in positioning the organization for future growth and success. And as SAGE moves forward, the SAGE Board of Directors remains dedicated and committed to celebrating and cultivating the Eastside community. Mr. Nortey will not just be ushering in a new era for SAGE, but reinforcing the organization’s pledge to making a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve. Thank you to the residents, businesses, sponsors, volunteers and certainly staff who have supported the organization over the past 25 years. This support has been the driving force behind SAGE’s continued presence on the Eastside, and with Mr. Nortey as our new CEO, we look forward to the exciting journey ahead.
